“Human identity is far more complex than we assume. It can be tempting for people in the modern secular West to ground their identity in one particular facet of life: their profession, their social role, their gender, their sexuality, their core passion. While all of these facets contribute to the common notion of human identity, they fall short of the biblical definition.  Who we are is a matter of whose we are. For Christians, identity is not defined by a preference or a disposition or a central desire. Identity is rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ, who calls us to find ourselves in him. Our very lives are found in another person. We "find ourselves" when we lose our life for the sake of Jesus Christ. That view of identity may sound strange to contemporary ears, but it has long been the position of orthodox Christianity. In this collection of writings, you will find two topics tethered to one another, in the hopes that the church will again recall her identity amidst a world that seems crazed and confused about what it means to be a human being.”
