Thomas Smyth (1808-1873) was born in Belfast, Ireland. After completing his studies at Belfast College in 1829, he moved to America to attend Princeton Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1831. He pastored the Second Presbyterian Church in Charleston, South Carolina, from 1834 until his death.
