About the Author

John Whitecross was the father of Margaret Paton, the wife of Scottish missionary to the New Hebrides, John G. Paton. In his autobiography, Paton notes of his wife's late father, that he 'had left behind him a fragrant memory through his many Christian works at Edinburgh, Kenneth, and Alloa, besides being not unknown to fame as the author of those still popular books, 'Whitecross's Anecdotes, illustrative of the Shorter Catechism and of the Holy Scriptures'.
